The Pension Department

The Pension Department handles all administrative aspects of the retirement programs administered by the Trust Fund Office for members and retirees. This includes the UFCW - Northern California Employers Joint Pension Trust Fund, the UFCW Pharmacists, Clerks and Drug Employers Pension Fund, the Retail Clerks Specialty Stores Pension Fund, the UFCW - Northern California Food Employers Joint Individual Account Trust Fund, and the TotalTrust Retirement Fund. The Individual Account Pension Plan and TotalTrust Retirement Fund are defined contribution plans, while the others are defined benefit plans.

The Pension Department consists of several major departmental units:

  • Pension Phone Unit
  • Pension Correspondence Unit
  • Pension Analyst Unit
  • Individual Account Plan Unit.

The Pension Department handles member/retiree phone calls, various written requests including benefit inquiries, retirement plan applications and Individual Account Pension Plan applications.

The Pension Department responds to approximately 75,000 phone calls, 1,200 benefit inquiries, and 4,800 retirement and individual account plan applications each year.

The Pension Department also is responsible for ensuring that the retirement plans meet all federal and state requirements, and that they are in compliance with all Department of Labor and Internal Revenue Service rules and regulations.

The Pension DepartmentThe Pension Phone Unit handles incoming phone calls between the hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm PT. As you approach retirement, Pension Analysts are available to help you through the retirement process. You can schedule an appointment at the Concord Trust Fund office to discuss your retirement planning so that the Trust Fund can prepare your records and have the necessary information at the time of your appointment. We suggest you contact the Trust Fund Office six months prior to your expected retirement date.
